          GETTING A DALMATIAN

barbone.gif (573 bytes)

                                                     FIRST

are you getting a dalmatian because of the disney movie?if so then the dalmatian is  probably not for you

barbone.gif (573 bytes)

sadly because of disneys greed and illresponsibilty in tryingto squeeze that last penny out of the franchise and the public ignorance about dalmations. the movies  have resulted   in thousands of these noble dogs being sent on a oneway trip to the pound and death

DALAMATIANS NEED LOTS OF ROOM AND  EXERCISE  they can  be wild as a buck!,

thats southern slang for high-spirted

DALMATIANS CAN BE TEMPERAMENTAL  not in the aggressive  way, thats due to irresponsible people breeding to cash in on the 101 &102 dalmations hysteria (by Temperamental  I mean   independent  Minded ,mine were known to go off and sulk when they didn't get their way (Some folks will tell you that dalmations are dumb, thats not true its just that dalmatians are strong willed,if a dal doesn't  feel like doing tricks they wont )

they shead a lot, then shed somemore brushing and baths help alot too

they can be standoffish and aloof* so can I,the dalmatian is a cautious dog once he decides the stranger  is ok you will have a friend  for life    *[this is why dal's also make good watch dogs]

they can sometimes have health problems like hip dyspasia, skin allergies and deafness: I have had a deaf dalmatian jingle {named thus for the bell I put on his collar} despite the seperation anxiety and the oral fixation {ever come home with your mother to find out someone had chewed up a $250 sofa ?  HOLY! #@** despite this he has turned out to be a pretty good dog ,yes I still have him. for infomation about living with a deaf dog go
